A talk by multidisciplinary artist Shauna Cribbin, discussing material, cross sampling, and the influences that are right in front of us.

Cribbin is interested in the idea that the most compelling art often comes not from referencing art and artists directly, but from sampling visually, contextually and materially  from music, design, conversation and the everyday. And the everyday, of course, is very much designed.

About Shauna Cribbin
Shauna Cribbin is a multidisciplinary artist working across sculpture, collage, assemblage and installation. Her practice is driven by the transformation and recontextualisation of images, objects and materials, bringing together the found, fabricated, decorative and everyday.
Using collage as both a physical process and a way of thinking, Cribbin explores how value, desire and identity are constructed through material culture. She is interested in the ways familiar images and objects accumulate personal and cultural meaning, and in the tensions between glamour and utility, fantasy and lived experience, intimacy and spectacle. Through processes of cutting, framing, engraving, embellishing and assembling, materials are reworked into objects that sit between image and sculpture, retaining traces of their original associations while proposing new ones.
